Historical & Structural Trauma

We examine the collective experiences, including community and historical trauma, that are often so woven into our past that it becomes less plain to see today.

Together, we will:
- Link collective experiences to individual health impacts
- Uncover how structures and institutions such as those in the health care, educational, and criminal-legal systems, have been created, maintained, and steeped in racism
- Strategize ways of honoring the collective resilience of both individuals and communities
- Develop structural approaches that inform policy and systems change

Bio:
Hannah Shevrin joined Health & Medicine in May 2023 where she manages the organization's three-part training series on a public health perspective of trauma and its causes, effects, and antidotes. As a facilitator for over ten years, Hannah is energized by creating and leading trainings that fuel people's visions for a better world. Hannah most recently worked as the Chicago Program Manager for Repair the World, where she developed over a hundred political education programs to organize Jewish community members into local justice work amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Prior to that, she was the Intake and Workshop Coordinator for Beyond Legal Aid, where she spearheaded the integration of trauma-informed practices into their legal services with grassroots partners. Hannah graduated from Tufts University with a BA in Sociology.
