REGISTER THROUGH THE ILLINOIS SCHOOL & CAMPUS SAFETY PROGRAM BY APRIL 24TH:
Digital Threat Assessment® (DTA) was developed by Safer Schools Together in recognition of the need to keep pace with evolving technologies and their ability to positively affect school and public safety. Most violent attacks on schools have had precursors leaked. Knowing where, how, and when to look for indicators of violent ideation transforms the ability of school safety teams to proactively intervene and is the focus of this training. DTA® will cover the challenges that frontline investigators and school staff currently face, including safe research practices, anonymous online threats, fake accounts, sexting and sextortion, geolocational utilities, image verification of firearms and suicidal imagery, and searching Instagram by school location.
Successful threat and risk assessments cannot be determined without considering the threat maker's social media and online activity. It is imperative to understand the tools and methods available to identify and manage online threat related behavior. Digital Threat Assessment® training will enable participants to establish a framework to better assess all threats by constructing and considering the digital baseline of a threat maker by locating, documenting, and evaluating social media data through a threat assessment lens. A significant portion of the day will be spent engaging in hands-on exercises on the most prevalent social media platforms and associated search applications.
Note:
You will need to use a laptop, Macbook, Microsoft Surface or Google Chromebook to get the most from the hands-on portion of the training. Tablets are not compatible with some aspects of the training, and IPads have limited searching capabilities. Your computer will need to have firewalls disabled and unrestricted Wi-Fi access for this training. Before attending, please test your connectivity to a public network and to TikTok, Instagram, and Snapchat. It is strongly recommended that you have an account for each of these platforms to get the most out of this training. While it is not necessary to have a Snapchat account, the platform will be discussed,
and familiarity with Snapchat will be helpful.
