This two-session workshop (9/15 and 9/24) is intended for ELA teachers as well as teachers of science and social studies. The session activities and learning will provide teachers with skills and practice in designing a two to four week Common Core standards-based unit complete with assessment and instructional activities. The first session will focus on how to apply the EQuIP rubric in evaluating an existing unit or in the process of creating a new unit. The second session will focus on the revision process and descriptive feedback as participants polish their units for actual classroom use.

Participants should bring either an existing unit they wish to improve or the materials needed for designing a new unit. During the week between sessions, participants should be prepared to build on learning by enhancing materials included in the unit design.

As an added incentive, participants may want to consider submitting their carefully crafted units to Achieve for national publication and dissemination. Achieve is currently awarding $1500 to writers of units addressing a specific instructional need and meeting EQuIP criteria. At present, the two instructional focus areas are supporting English Language Learners or focusing on speaking and listening in relation to complex grade level text.  More instructional areas with a $1500 award will be added soon. See the link for more information.
